About The MaIH Center and

Altruism, Inc.

Our Mission, Vision, and Purpose

Our mission is to empower communities to thrive equitably by equipping them with information and resources that advance whole-person care.

Our vision is to create healthier communities sustained by a continuum of whole-person care through strategic partnerships with health care, mental health, and social care organizations.

Our purpose is to reduce preventable deaths through targeted programs, advocacy, outreach, and education in a manner that actualizes equity, dignity, and compassion.

Rural parents deserve access to care

Our Why

Maternal and infant health care remains challenging for rural pregnant people and for those after they give birth. Hospital closures, limited access to maternity care, and transportation gaps that make traveling to larger cities for care nearly impossible is why we opened The MaIH Center.

Nine of the 10 counties in Missouri with the highest infant mortality rate are rural. Altruism, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, established in 2021, works daily to provide a solution to the maternity care desert in rural West Central Missouri.

With help from our philanthropic partners, all services are provided free for individuals covered through Medicaid, or those who are uninsured.

Our goal is to understand the specific needs of each client and provide very targeted health care and social care – to support a healthy labor, delivery, and after birth. We do this with a team of doulas, community health workers, and midwives. The MaIH Center is the only service provider of this kind in West Central Missouri.

Our services also extend to Spanish-speaking pregnant people. To learn more about Altruism, Inc., call The MaIH Center at 660.259.2402.
