Your Plate Is Part of the Prescription

Altruism, Inc.’s FaM (Food as Medicine) Program explores how nutritious food, regular health check-ins, and ongoing support can help people better manage chronic health conditions.

For up to one year, participants receive groceries twice each month. We’ll select foods based on each participant’s medical needs, dietary needs, and food preferences.

Groceries Twice Each Month

Foods are selected with your medical needs, dietary needs, and food preferences in mind.

Monthly Health Check-Ins

In-person check-ins help track your weight and other health measurements throughout the program.

Personal Health Goals

We’ll set goals together and review your progress throughout the program.

What Food as Medicine Means

The idea is simple and backed by how the body actually works. What you eat every day shapes how you feel every day, from energy and mood to how well a chronic condition is managed over time.

Altruism’s FaM Program turns that idea into something you can use. You’ll receive groceries selected around your medical needs, dietary needs, and food preferences, along with regular health check-ins to track your progress. It’s not a strict diet or a lecture, but real food and ongoing support that fit the way you already live.

That is the work we do together, one practical step at a time.

Who Is This For?

The FaM Program is for people living with a diagnosed condition that is shaped by what they eat, and who want food to be part of how they manage it. You may be a good fit if you have:

^

A diet-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, or heart disease.

^

A pregnancy-related condition such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, or another hypertensive disorder.

^

A serious illness such as cancer or another condition where nutrition supports your body through treatment and recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join Altruism's FaM Program?

The FaM Program is for people living with a chronic condition or health risk that may be affected by nutrition. This may include diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, obesity, pregnancy-related conditions such as preeclampsia or gestational diabetes, and some serious illnesses where nutrition can support treatment or recovery.

Because the Program is a pilot study, participants must also be willing and able to attend monthly in-person check-ins, complete required health measurements, share feedback about their experience, and participate consistently for up to one year.

How much does it cost?

Altruism’s FaM Program is completely free to participants.

Where and when are the monthly check-ins held?

Monthly check-ins are held in person. Participants will receive scheduling and location details directly from the Altruism, Inc. team.

How long is the program?

The Program runs for up to one year.

How do the groceries work?

Participants receive groceries twice each month. Foods are selected based on each participant’s medical needs, dietary needs, and food preferences.

Do I need a referral or a diagnosis to join?

You do not need a doctor’s referral to reach out. Altruism’s FaM Program is built for people managing a diagnosed condition, rather than for general nutrition support, so if you are not sure whether your condition qualifies, give us a call and we will talk it through. And if your doctor or care team recommended the program, that is welcome too.

What happens during a monthly check-in?

During each in-person monthly check-in, we’ll track your weight and other health measurements, such as blood pressure, and review your progress. Depending on your health needs, we may also track blood sugar, A1C, cholesterol, and personal health goals.

How do I sign up?

Call us at 660-259-2402, or reach out through our Contact Us page. Because space is limited, it is best to connect early.
